I grew up in Bury, Lancashire—a mill town central to innovation and scaling of the Industrial Revolution. My father, a draughtsman and entrepreneur, worked hard to build a better life for his family but was ultimately undone by the capitalist system he believed in. The adverse impacts on our family created by his working tirelessly, facing setbacks, mental health challenges, alcoholism, and ultimately passing away far too early, ignited my lifelong commitment to understand how the system works and how it could work better for humanity. I believe the private sector and its leadership hold extraordinary untapped potential to shape our future. That is the heart of why I do this work.
